The Jackson Bollocks

I met Ed Pankov at a tea party hosted by friend Amanda Flowers (of Troma Film fame). It was held at Ed’s apartment in Bushwick which was at that time, nicknamed The Asylum’.

A few years before that, Ed met Robert.

Robert Leslie is a full time busker in NYC.

Robert was busking on the G train when a few strangers / admirers asked him if he wanted to go to a rooftop party. He said sure. He went to the party and Robert met met Ed.

Ed and Robert would hang out, drink beer, go to shows, create strange performance art and occasionally make some music.

It was all good fun until they decided to actually take their work seriously.

That’s when they had a problem. They didn’t know if they had an audience.

I suggested making a film about Ed and Robert, and their band, for a rather utilitarian purpose - to better explain their music and find similar folks that would love the band.

So I got to become band member #3 for a very short while.

Months after the show, I finished the piece. I sort of didn’t know what was next, and showed it to my co-worker Rachel at Ark Media. She screened it at Spectacle Theater in Williamsburg.

And it was so much fun.
